Hello there! Welcome to Part One of my two-part video essay series analyzing the rhetorical moves and impact of college student movements and experiences in the United States. For this project I am looking specifically at the #NotAgainSU movement started at Syracuse University in New York in 2019. This video will be split into two parts: Part One: An Overall History of Racist Incidents at Colleges and Universities in America and Part Two: An Overall History of #NotAgainSU from 2019 to 2021.
When looking specifically at the student activists of #NotAgainSU, one can see Syracuse students using social media and in-person protest to “witness and testify” against the unjust treatment of students of color who had experienced racist or discriminatory acts on campus. I firmly believe that similar to how “witnessing and testifying” was integral to civil rights and social justice in America that the key(s) to understand (de/re)constructing the academy lies within the stories or testimonies of student perceptions on their education, specifically Black students and students of color perceptions on inclusivity, culture, and campus protocols.

This first video illustrates a timeline of events with the inception of #NotAgainSU in November 2019 until January 2020.
